BFOE and Emissions Based Parking

Brent Friends of the Earth continue their decidly peculiar brand of environmental campaigning with a submission on our Emissions Based Parking Permit proposals.  For a supposedly environmental group, it is staggerly lukewarm and grudging.  It states that "we are not opposed to the principle of emissions based parking permits."

Not exactly leading the charge on Climate Change, are they?

I think I will do a further post on their ill considered and unrealistic objections at a later date.

You have been rather selective with your supposed quote, in full it reads:

"Overall, while we are not opposed to the principle of emissions based parking permits, we believe that such schemes need to be implemented in a way that is seen to be fair, and which offers people a real incentive to change their behaviour. They should also be part of an overall plan which makes it much easier to use other forms of transport, as people are unlikely to be influenced by this small financial incentive if public transport services are often disrupted and expensive, and if cycling is perceived as difficult and dangerous."

Since the scheme only applies to Controlled Parking Zones, it will have no effect whatsoever in the large proportion of the borough not covered by CPZs. This makes rather a nonsense of any claim for this to be a'green' scheme throughout the Borough, rather a penalty where it can be applied.
