Brent Council and the Riots

Tonight, Brent Council is having a full Council meeting.  These events seem to have limited usefulness now that the full Council is no longer the deciding body for most decisions.  However, we will have a debate on the riots and what to do in the wake of them led by the Borough Commander, Matt Gardiner.

I wonder if the behaviour of a large number of police officers outside Wembley Park on one evening during the riots will be covered. Had they not been uniformed officers "in" marked police vehicles I'm sure it would have been referred to as anti-social behaviour.

They were eating takeaways, blocking the use of the 'pick up' car park even though there was space for other vehicles and blocking the use of the pavement on brook avenue.

I have no problem with officers taking a break, but why so many van loads of officers have to go on a break at the same time, in the same place with the manner of behaviour they did I don't know.

These officers risk their lives for our safety every day they put on their uniform, so they do deserve a little slack, but they don't do their image any favours by the behaviour of what I'm sure is a minority of officers.

From what i read, there was not too much going on in Brent but i doubt that means the reasons for rioting elsewhere and underlying youth and deprivation issues are not relevant in the borough
