The Cut had a kind of bollard that I haven't seen elsewhere (pictured above). I am not sure whether I prefer it to our more traditional bollards, but it would allow people to sit, which is one of the ways in which the High Street can be made friendlier for pedestrians.

This is certainly vandal-proof, and would not be dislodged by parked vehicles backing into it, unlike all except the most expensive cast-iron bollards
However, it would be invisible in deep snow (not often), so might be a safety issue, if it protected the ends of "no-parking-on-the-pavement-here" stretches.
