Today is the feast of St Thomas Becket, as well as being the anniversary of his martyrdom.
It reminds me of my earlier posting on Thomas A Becket Close. This was a proposal that we turned down against officer recommendation. The developer appealed, asking for costs. After losing the appeal, the developer has come back with a new proposal that met the previous reasons for objection (excessive scale, privacy problems over distances between balconies and windows). It seems a good case where you can see Planning as a rational evidence based process.
Incidentally, Frank Barlow, in his definitive life of the Saint remarks that “Thomas A Becket” was a name St Thomas would have never used, and he should always be referred to as simply Thomas Becket.

It is interesting to celebrate Thomas Becket day, when in Brent by reason of persecution we have modern day martyrs who are still being persecuted by Brent council. We are witnessing the silent death of the independent thinker and the true Community spirits that we have in Brent are being picked off and degraded at the will of certain high ranking individuals in the local authority. That the Liberals are picking off all the people who offered support to the previous administration, hoping to undermine the future hopes for normality being established in Brent after these fools have their marching orders.
As we pray for the martyrs of the world and seek their intervention with God, we should also, in our prayers remember those who at present are going through he'll on earthat the hands of our spiteful council.

Really interesting, that we should celebrate the lives of martyrs , whilst we still have the modern versions being tortured. I hear that Brent took Elcena Jeffers to court and evicted this disabled pensioner, if you are in any doubt as to who this woman is, She is a community leader in the field of disability, then look up the amount of our money Brent has spent taking this woman to court for the last 20 years, a disabled activist she has been under the heel of Brent who have chased her into court more times than we have had hot dinners. Now we have the newest version of Mrs Jeffers. Mariaska Romanov. Who Brent have hounded in every aspect of her life. She is being taken to court again soon, this much persecuted woman has been dragged through the mud in every aspect of her life, laid bare for Brent to humiliate her, I am therefore surprised that we celebrate Thomas Becket, whilst we still have living marytrs alive in Brent. Thomas Becket, as Arch Bishop of Canterbury, was deemed to be more powerful than the King of England. Because of the fear that he was more powerful and more popular, knights loyal to the king murdered Thomas Becket inside Canterbury cathederal.
This story when transposed from the 13th century into modern day Brent could explain why Officers of Brent council are bringing down the modern day Beckets in the guise of our popular community leaders. Maybe when
they too have had their brains bashed out and murdered we can lament the loss of these individuals, those amongst you who are historically knowlegeable, will remember that the 13th century king had to walk barefoot around Canterbury, whilst being whipped as a form of penance for the death of Becket, need not hold their breath awaiting the barefoot flogging of Paul Lorber, as although the tactics employed by the high eschellons, the punishment no longer fits the crime, mores the pity.
