Here is an additional list of why Eric Pickles is wrong on
weekly bin collections. It also raises the issue of why he is introducing a scheme that seems to cut across his various "localist" statements. The writer is in fact much kinder than I would be. I think Eric Pickles does as he does because he believes in localising blame but centralising control, in the same way that bankers like to nationalise losses, but privatise profits.

I think you'll find it's politicians that want to nationalise banker losses, not the bankers themselves.
It's also the politicians that want to privatise the profits by not having effective taxation and regulation.
I completely agree that this scheme/bribe/trash of Eric Pickles is the wrong thing to do, especially at this time. He should really use that £250m to reduce the cuts to council grants and let the councils choose what to spend the money on. However this is the typical approach of both the Conservative and New Labour governments a perfect example is how both administrations bribed governing bodies and head teachers to convert their schools to new schemes away from Local Authorities. There's really not that much difference from the right wing parts of New Labour (i.e. most of New Labour) and the Conservatives. It's a shame that our executive is also more Conservative than the Brent Conservatives (sorry if you find that comment offensive, but that's how it looks to us the people that voted Labour at the last council elections).
