Last week I went to an interesting
London Councils event about walking and cycling where I was startled by one of the statistics quoted. The number of pedestrian deaths on the roads is three per day in London. If we had a rail accident where 21 people died that would be seen as a major disaster, but that is just the weekly average for road deaths, and goes unremarked. What is worse is that the death rate has been going up for the past couple of years.
