Kilburn Regeneration Will Not Come Under Scrutiny

There has been a bit of a mystery as to whether Brent Council's Scrutiny are going to look at the issues around South Kilburn regeneration.  Disquiet has been expressed by local residents.   Somebody in the Council is apparently doing a fundamental review, but only behind closed doors.

I have it on good authority that actually Brent's Scrutiny Committee are not planning any investigation, and I must say I don't think that is good enough.

The whole context of the regeneration of South Kilburn has changed mightily since the inception of the project.  It was started under a Labour government that wanted to improve areas for communities.  It is now continuing under a Tory government that apparently sees regeneration as a way of selling off real estate to the highest bid and never mind the social consequences.  The new government's attitude has led to a number of changes that makes it increasingly doubtful whether the original purposes can be delivered.

What is needed is a public debate where people who live in Kilburn and those who represent them can make political decisions about the choices that face them.
