The Anti-Green Greens

I see Martin Francis, erstwhile Green Party candidate in Brent North, has called for some Harlesden's green space to be built on, albeit with a building with a "very small footprint."  What is it about the so called Green campaigners in Brent that makes them campaign against environmentalist objectives?  Martin's party colleague in Brent Central last time and numerous other elections before advocates abandoning the Civic Centre apparently unfazed by the effect that that would have on the Council's carbon emissions.  Brent Friends of the Earth fought the Council's proposals to increase recycling tooth and nail, throwing in a number of absurd accusations to boot.   The same group opposed our very modest proposals to link CPZ charges to vehicle emissions.

What makes these people think that they are environmentalists?

All that may well be true - but does not the recycling industry bitterly criticise co-mingling of recyclable materials?

Well James, I went to the Scrutiny Committee and listened to the presentation by supporters of the Mission Dining Centre and felt they deserved support. The Green Party is concerned about the environment AND social justice.I know the green space in question as I used to live around the corner and know that it is not used by the school because of the amount of dog excrement deposited there. The space is just across the road from Roundwood Park with all its facilities.

I would prefer the option of a shared space in the new build at Newfield School but failing that, a building smaller than the average pavilion, would take away little of the green space and could enhance it. With a little imagination some of the green space might even be used for the Dining Centre to grow some of its own fruit and vegetables.

I urge your readers to have a look at my blog on the Mission Dining Centre and make up their own minds.

I had read your post about the Mission Dining Centre on the Wembley Matters Blog before this appeared here and I just have one thing to add - Cllr Powney Why do you slag everyone off - It's a very unattractive quality in a person?
